Rate Conversions: ft/s, mph and km/h

1,000 questions

The one factor worth memorising: 6060 mph is exactly 8888 ft/s. Everything follows from the ratio 8860=2215\frac{88}{60} = \frac{22}{15}.

So mph \to ft/s multiplies by 2215\frac{22}{15}, and ft/s \to mph multiplies by 1522\frac{15}{22}. For example 440440 ft/s ×1522=300\times \frac{15}{22} = 300 mph.

Look for multiples of 2222 in ft/s and multiples of 1515 in mph — the problems are built so one of them cancels cleanly.
