Converting a/40 and b/80, etc... to Decimals

1,000 questions

Converting fractions with denominators like 40 or 80 can be simplified by breaking down the process.

For a fraction a40\frac{a}{40}, treat it as a/410\frac{a/4}{10}. First, divide the numerator by 4, then shift the decimal point one place to the left.

Example: 4340=1+340\frac{43}{40} = 1 + \frac{3}{40}. For the fractional part, calculate 3÷4=0.753 \div 4 = 0.75. Shift the decimal: 0.075. So, 4340=1.075\frac{43}{40} = 1.075.

Similarly, for b80\frac{b}{80}, treat it as b/810\frac{b/8}{10}. Divide the numerator by 8, then shift the decimal.

Example: 2780\frac{27}{80}. Calculate 27÷8=3.37527 \div 8 = 3.375. Shift the decimal: 0.3375.
